— Contributing to a Decarbonized Society and Strengthening Regional Resilience Through the Integration of Logistics and Energy Infrastructure —
GATES Inc. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Yuji Sekino; hereinafter “GATES”), which operates “TIK TAK,” a comprehensive energy and digital infrastructure investment platform that supports the next generation of social infrastructure, has decided to pursue the low-voltage grid-connected battery storage business on a full scale, taking the April 2026 regulatory changes that opened the market to such systems as a key opportunity.

As the expansion of renewable energy becomes an urgent priority in addressing climate change, battery storage systems—which enable the effective use of renewable energy whose output fluctuates with weather conditions and help stabilize the balance between electricity supply and demand—are becoming more important than ever.
Leveraging the project management expertise cultivated through its existing businesses, GATES will seek to make maximum use of underutilized spaces across Japan, including idle land and parking areas at commercial facilities. By closely integrating these spaces with next-generation energy infrastructure such as battery storage systems, GATES aims to create a new business model that simultaneously maximizes the value of space and ensures a stable energy supply.
In addition to pursuing the realization of a sustainable, decarbonized society, GATES will contribute to strengthening regional resilience—disaster preparedness and recovery capabilities—by securing distributed power sources, thereby fulfilling its corporate social responsibility.

■Launch of Commercialization Verification Through Strong Partnerships
To advance this business and achieve early monetization and stable operation, GATES has formed strong alliances with four professional companies that lead their respective fields.
In addition, GATES has engaged Deloitte Tohmatsu LLC to conduct multifaceted analyses and verify the commercial viability of the business through feasibility assessments and related reviews.
By bringing together the strengths of each company, the alliance will rapidly overcome technical and legal hurdles and strongly promote the development of next-generation energy infrastructure. As the first step, the parties will begin a feasibility assessment (verification) of the pilot project.

■Background and Purpose: Entry into the Low-Voltage Grid-Connected Battery Storage Market Opened in April 2026
Beginning in April 2026, regulatory changes made it possible for low-voltage grid-connected battery storage systems with output below 50 kW to participate in the balancing market and other electricity markets.
Until now, battery storage businesses generally required large-scale capital investment in extra-high-voltage or high-voltage facilities, together with extensive land. Under the new framework, however, small unused plots scattered across urban and suburban areas, portions of parking lots, and dead space at commercial and logistics facilities can now be effectively utilized as distributed power sources.
With its strengths in real estate and investment consulting, GATES will use this deregulation as an opportunity to transform dormant real estate across Japan into “valuable energy infrastructure,” simultaneously establishing new revenue models and helping solve energy-related challenges.
■Five Areas of Social Significance
As companies are increasingly expected to practice ESG-oriented management, this business directly contributes to solving social challenges from the following five perspectives.
1.Expanding the Adoption of Renewable Energy and Contributing to a Decarbonized Society
Battery storage systems will function as a “balancing resource” for renewable energy, whose output fluctuates depending on weather conditions, and will support the establishment of renewables as a primary power source from an infrastructure standpoint.
2. Stabilizing the Electricity Supply and Reducing “Output Curtailment”
By charging when power generation exceeds demand and discharging when supply-demand conditions become tight, battery storage systems will reduce the waste of clean energy.
3. Contributing to the Stabilization of Electricity Prices
By charging during periods when market prices are low and discharging when prices are high, battery storage systems will help smooth volatility in electricity prices.
4. Enhancing Regional Resilience (Disaster Preparedness)
By forming a distributed network of battery storage systems deployed across various regions, rather than relying solely on centralized power sources, the business will help build electricity infrastructure that is more resilient to disasters.
5. Functioning as a BCP (Business Continuity Plan) Power Source During Disasters During disasters, the battery storage systems will be utilized as BCP power sources capable of supplying electricity to local communities and residents as needed.
■Future Outlook
GATES will first move swiftly to execute the first pilot project under this alliance, with the goal of establishing a solid business model and earnings base.
Thereafter, by making maximum use of the resources of each participating company, GATES will accelerate the multi-site rollout of low-voltage grid-connected battery storage systems across unused land, logistics facilities, and other locations throughout Japan.
GATES will continue to move forward in resolving social issues through its business activities and realizing a sustainable society.
