GATES’ Grid-Scale Battery Storage Platform “TIK TAK” Launches Trading of Completed Project Package (Land+BESS)

Creating a Secondary Market That Eliminates Development Risk and Enables Immediate Revenue Generation

GATES Inc. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter “GATES”) announced that TIK TAK, its platform for grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), has begun handling completed (development) projects (including fully developed and construction-completed grid-scale battery storage projects).

In addition to its existing matching service for business sites with development rights, the introduction of trading for completed projects transforms TIK TAK into a comprehensive infrastructure investment platform that addresses the diverse needs of both investors and project developers.

Background Behind the Service Expansion
As Japan advances toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, grid-scale battery energy storage systems have become indispensable infrastructure for balancing fluctuations in renewable energy generation, driving rapid growth in the market.
Since the launch of TIK TAK at the end of 2025, the platform has been adopted by more than 300 companies, during which GATES has received feedback including the following:

Challenges Faced by Buyers (Investors and Project Operators)
“We want to avoid EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) schedule delays and rising material costs, fully utilize tax incentives such as immediate depreciation, and acquire projects that can begin generating revenue immediately through electricity sales and participation in power markets.”

Challenges Faced by Sellers (Developers and EPC Companies)
“We want a reliable exit strategy that allows us to sell high-quality assets after development and commissioning at an appropriate market price, enabling us to reinvest the proceeds into our next development projects.”

To meet these increasingly sophisticated market needs as the industry matures, GATES is leveraging its expertise across real estate, renewable energy, and finance to pioneer the development of a secondary market for grid-scale battery storage assets in Japan.

Key Features and Benefits of Supporting Completed Projects
The addition of completed projects delivers significant business advantages to both buyers and sellers using the TIK TAK platform.

1.Benefits for Buyers (Investors and New Market Entrants)
 Immediate Revenue Generation
Rather than spending one to two years on project development and waiting for utility coordination, buyers can begin operating in the wholesale electricity, capacity, and balancing markets immediately after acquiring a completed asset.

 Minimized Project Risk
Development and EPC-related risks—including construction delays and unexpected increases in construction costs—have already been eliminated, allowing investors to formulate highly predictable and stable investment plans.

 Streamlined Due Diligence
Because these are already operational assets with established performance records, GATES supports
buyers in conducting more accurate asset evaluations and executing transactions with greater
confidence.

2.Benefits for Sellers (Project Developers and EPC Contractors)
 A Clear Exit Strategy
Operational, high-quality battery assets can be marketed directly through the platform to buyers actively seeking battery storage investments, enabling faster asset disposition and capital recovery.

Improved Capital Efficiency and Accelerated Reinvestment
Capital generated from the sale of completed projects can be reinvested into acquiring new development sites and funding subsequent development projects, accelerating business expansion.

Future Initiatives
Going forward, GATES will continue to provide a seamless matching environment through TIK TAK, covering the entire lifecycle from business sites with development rights to completed battery storage projects, while also strengthening support for tax incentive needs, including immediate depreciation.
In addition, GATES will establish an end-to-end support framework incorporating more sophisticated financial solutions, including financing support through its proprietary Structured Finance business.

By fostering a healthy and highly liquid market for battery storage assets, GATES aims to facilitate smoother project launches while contributing to the advancement of Japan’s energy infrastructure and the stability of the national power grid.
